Alex and Niki Win Sail for Gold

Niki and Alex retain their World Cup title for the 3rd year running.

The Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta is held over 5 days and aside from the Miami OCR, is the only World Cup event that Alex and Nikki haven't won.

Day 1: The weather was very calm, to a point where the race was almost postponed. Alex and Nikki ended their the day in 3rd place.

Day 2: The conditioned turned from extreme calm to just extreme with temperatures as low as 13C. The excitement of racing only dampened by the prospect of sitting in wet cloths for 3 races. Full winds allowed speeds ranging from 10 - 26 knots. When the going gets tough, the tough get going, this was proven to be true as Niki and Alex took 3 straight race wins.

Day 3: It was named "Wacky Wednesday" because the wind direction was "Gusty" to put it mildly. With about 12 - 17 knots in the lull, blasting to 20 - 25 knots at peak times.

Day 4: Race day was canceled due bad weather and because the larger ships were taking shelter from the storms on the racecourse. However. Alex and Niki could feel positive as they were leading the race at this point.

Day 5: With standing gusts of 50 knots, day 5 was never going to happen. This meant that Niki and Alex were able to leave Sail for Gold with gold medals and thus retain their World Cup Title.
