David Weir wins the Great North Run in a record time of 41 mins & 34 seconds beating his own course record. He beat his nearest rival Josh Cassidy of Canada by over a minute. This followed his success in the Tynne Tunnel race which took place on Thursday. He beat Josh for that title too.

Shelly Woods came second in the Berlin Marathon even though she beat the old course record, which had stood since 1999, by a minute. Her close rival Sandra Graf of Switzerland got away from her at the 35KM point and managed to hold that advantage to the finish line. Shelly also won the Tyne Tunnel race on Thursday beating her close rival Amanda Mc Grory of the USA to do so.

The similarities do not stop there, David had trouble with a flat tyre before the start of the Tynne Tunnel race & Shelly's tyre blew up, while Shelly was on the start line of the Marathon, with a minute to go, she managed to change it with a bit of help & went onto get second place.
