This year’s Christmas card is dedicated to those Get Kids Going! athletes who took part in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games this Summer.
Team GB was the second most successful nation in the world, after China, winning a total of 124 medals –
49 gold, 44 silver and 31 bronze at the Paris Games.
Our heroes were, undoubtedly, the GB Wheelchair Tennis team of Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett who made history by becoming the first UK athletes to win the men’s wheelchair tennis, doubles, gold medal match after beating their opponents in straight sets!
We are delighted to say that Gordon received one of his first tennis wheelchairs from Get Kids Going! in 2008.
Gordon is ranked world no.1 in both singles and doubles. He holds two Paralympic gold medals, two silver and one bronze medal and is two times Grand Slam singles Champion. Gordon linked up with, the amazing, Alfie Hewett at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games when they won silver in the men’s doubles. They have now become one of the world’s most celebrated sporting duos. Congratulations to Gordon and Alfie – we are immensely proud of you both.
Get Kids Going! also had a number of other supported athletes taking part in the Games who achieved some outstanding results including; Tim Jeffery winning a bronze in the 50m rifle shooting, Fabienne André came 4th in the 800m T34 women’s wheelchair race and 5th in the 100m race, achieving a new personal best in both distances, Eden Rainbow-Cooper made her debut at the Games finishing 7th in the women’s T54 1,500m wheelchair final, the GB wheelchair rugby team came, an agonising, 4th after losing a nail-biting, 48-50, bronze medal match to Australia, GB wheelchair boccia team’s Claire Taggart and Sally Kidson both took part in the Games narrowly missing out on a bronze medal, para judo’s super star, Chris Skelly, won a brilliant bronze, after changing weight class, in the +90kg J2 competition with David Weir, the charity’s President, finishing a commendable 5th place in the men’s T54 wheelchair marathon to complete an amazing games for Get Kids Going!
The charity is delighted to continue to support these and many other, young, disabled athletes throughout their sporting careers having given over £1m in funding to such wonderful youngsters in the build up to the Games.

Get Kids Going! is a national charity which gives disabled children and young people – up to the age of
26 yrs – the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport. We provide them with specially built sports wheelchairs and sports equipment so they can take part in paralympic sports such as; alpine skiing, snowboarding, athletics, tennis, rugby, sailing, basketball, table tennis, shooting, archery, powerlifting and many more sports. Get Kids Going! inspires British disabled youngsters to compete in sporting events, from start to paralympic level, by also giving them sports grants to help with their; training, physiotherapy, travel, competition fees, design and development of sports’ equipment. With your help, many of our youngsters can go on to become world record holders and paralympic champions!
