The race is now in its final stages of evaluation and, if agreed, it will have equal status with London, Berlin, New York, Chicago, Boston, Tokyo and Sydney!

The official announcement by Abbott World Marathon Majors is expected after this year’s New York City Marathon in early November.

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is on the brink of achieving a monumental milestone, potentially ascending to the prestigious ranks of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. This elevation would place it on par with illustrious events such as those held in London, Berlin, New York, Chicago, Boston, Tokyo and Sydney. As an official candidate race, it’s conceivable that Cape Town could secure the coveted major status very soon. Moreover, the marathon’s route is nothing short of spectacular, offering participants and spectators alike breathtaking ocean vistas and mountain panoramas, in addition to meandering past numerous of the city’s major attractions. These range from its celebrated street art to its emblematic historical landmarks.

Furthermore, this marathon acts as a powerful catalyst, enriching visitors’ experiences by showcasing the unique and awe-inspiring sights of one of the globe’s most diverse and picturesque cities. In essence, the route is meticulously designed to feature spectacular ocean scenery and mountain views, all while guiding runners past many of the city’s renowned attractions. Noteworthy among these is City Hall, the very spot where Nelson Mandela delivered his inaugural public speech following his release in 1990, adding a profound historical resonance to the race.

The whole race is, of course, overlooked by the world famous Table Mountain!

Get Kids Going!

Get Kids Going! is a national charity which gives disabled children and young people, up to the age of 26 years, the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport. We provide them with specially built sports wheelchairs so they can do: athletics, marathons, tennis, skiing, rugby, sailing, basketball, snowboarding and many other sports.

Get Kids Going! inspires young people to compete in sporting events, from start to paralympic level, by also giving them annual sports grants to help with their; training, travel, competition fees and the development of sports’ equipment. With your help many of these amazing youngsters can become world record holders and paralympic champions!
