Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge 2025

Experience Wales’ golden beaches, rugged cliffs, and rolling moors.

Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge

Taking part in the Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge offers not only a physical test but also an incredible journey through some of Wales’ most breathtaking landscapes.

Penrice Castle Basecamp
All challenge routes start and finish at the historic Penrice Castle grounds. This 18th-century estate provides a picturesque setting with its classic architecture and rich surroundings, setting the tone for the adventure ahead.

Oxwich Bay and Nature Reserve
Many routes lead you to Oxwich Bay, well known for its expansive sandy shores and clear waters. Next to the bay lies the Oxwich National Nature Reserve, a diverse habitat featuring dunes, salt marshes, and woodlands, offering a serene backdrop as you progress.

Rhossili Bay
Seen as one of the UK’s most stunning beaches, Rhossili Bay boasts a vast expanse of golden sands stretching over three miles. The iconic Worm’s Head promontory, resembling a serpent, adds to the dramatic coastal scenery. The elevated vantage points provide panoramic views of the bay and the Atlantic beyond.

Gower Way and Cefn Bryn
Some routes incorporate sections of the Gower Way, guiding you over Cefn Bryn, a prominent sandstone ridge known as the “backbone of Gower.” At 188 meters, it offers sweeping views of the peninsula, including moorlands, woodlands, and distant seascapes. The area is also rich in archaeological sites, including the famous Arthur’s Stone, a Neolithic burial chamber.

Three Cliffs Bay
Recognised by its distinctive triple limestone cliffs, this bay presents a unique and picturesque landscape. The meandering Pennard Pill stream flows into the sea here, and the nearby ruins of Pennard Castle add a historical dimension to the natural beauty.

Landimore Marsh
Certain routes cross the peaceful Landimore Marsh, a saltmarsh area that provides a contrast to the coastal scenes with its serene wetlands and diverse birdlife.

Each part of the Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge is planned to showcase the area’s diverse landscapes, from dramatic coastlines and pristine beaches to rolling hills and historic sites. You will be treated to a visual feast that encapsulates the natural splendor and cultural heritage of this remarkable area.
