The Great North Run, stretching from Newcastle to South Shields, is an unmissable experience for runners of all levels. This iconic City-to-Sea course returns for good, featuring the traditional start at the famous Tyne Bridge and a spectacular finish in South Shields. Widely celebrated, it’s considered one of the world’s greatest half marathons, making the Great North Run a bucket-list event.

Get Kids Going!
Get Kids Going! is a national charity which gives disabled children and young people, up to the age of 26 years, the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport. We provide them with specially built sports wheelchairs so they can therefore do: athletics, marathons, tennis, skiing, rugby, sailing, basketball, snowboarding as well as many other sports.
Get Kids Going! inspires young people to compete in sporting events, from start to paralympic level, by also giving them annual sports grants to help with their; training, travel, competition fees and the development of sports’ equipment. With your help many of these amazing youngsters can become world record holders and paralympic champions!

More about the Great North Run
Established in 1981 by former Olympic athlete Brendan Foster, the Great North Run begins in Newcastle upon Tyne and finishes in South Shields.
It is indeed, the largest half marathon in the world, with over 57,000 participants each year, ranging from Paralympians like David Weir and Olympians like Mo Farah, to then fun runners and wheelchair participants.
Meanwhile, the course takes runners through iconic landmarks, first of all the Tyne Bridge, while also offering stunning views of the River Tyne throughout the journey. Secondly, the Angel of the North, designed by Antony Gormley and stands 20 meters tall. Then finally along the Leas, a beautiful coastal area, with the North Sea and sandy beaches providing a breathtaking backdrop to the end of the race.
