Aled Davies wins his third consecutive Paralympic gold for shot put

Huge congratulations to Get Kids Going! Patron and Ambassador, Aled Davies who won his third successive individual Paralympic gold. Aled was supported by Get Kids Going! when he was younger which helped to kick start his amazing sporting career.

30-year-old Aled successfully defended his shot put F42 title from Rio 2016 with a 15.33m throw in the fourth round. This was added to the discus F42 gold he won at London 2012.

“There’s so much emotion. It’s been a long 18 months and five-year cycle,” Aled said.

“I’ve learnt so much over the last 18 months and had to evolve and adapt and become self-sufficient almost. It’s so hard to win medals – the conditions, everything was against me out there.

“I wanted to put down some big throws and nothing was letting me in that slippery surface. I’m taking this medal home to my little girl.”

Aled continued: “The conditions were great up until a few days ago, which is a shame because I was ready to deliver a big performance but it doesn’t matter now, I’m going home with the colour of medal I came for. ”

“That’s for everyone; my whole team, my family, my friends, I’m just so happy that I could do the job. That’s what championship throwing is all about, adapting to the conditions in front of you.

“I’m still young in this sport and I feel great and in the shape of my life, so Paris (2024) is my next stop, maybe even LA (2028) – I’m just getting started.”

We would like to congratulate all of our Get Kids Going! supported athletes and previous supported athletes, like Aled, for their amazing achievements. Check out our Paralympics news page for the results and look out for more updates as the athletes reflect on their performances now that they are home.
