We are delighted to announce that Menna Fitzpatrick won two medals for Great Britain in the World Para Alpine Skiing Championships in Spain.
With her guide Katie Guest, she picked up a silver medal in the visually impaired Giant Slalom with a time 2:03:64 and a bronze medal in the visually impaired Slalom event with a time of 1:52:28
Menna was a proud flag bearer for Great Britain and said of the whole event:
“It was a fantastic experience and Espot you did very well. Yes we got some great results 🥈🥉 in the Giant slalom and the Slalom events but I’m most proud of how we skied in the Super Combined race until I straddled that is 😂.
“I just like to say a massive thank you to the team we had around us who created a fun and calming environment which is exactly what I needed.
“I also want to say a big thank you to you Katie for all you do to make sure we ski as fast and as safely as we can. Also for filling me with confidence as we’ve worked out confident skiing is fast Skiing.
“Lastly thank you to everyone supporting from afar and thanks for the messages they are a great comfort whilst away from home.”
The Get Kids Going! supported athlete won silver in the women’s Super G Vision Impaired at 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics alongside her guide, Gary Smith. That was the fifth Paralympic medal of her career and made her the most decorated Winter Paralympian.
At the time Menna said: “I am so happy to be most successful British Winter Paralympian that is not what we came out to do today though, we went out to ski well, so to come out with a silver medal and a pretty amazing title as well means we are delighted.”
“Just before the pandemic I broke my leg, Gary was guiding me at the time, and he was a great support during my rehab and to come through that and Covid as well make this really special”.
Meanwhile in the World Para Alpine Skiing Championships, Get Kids Going! supported athlete Neil Simpson and his guide Rob Poth won a Gold medal in VI Super-G with the amazing time of 56:66.
