Congratulations to wheelchair racer Shelly Woods for completing three marathons in three weeks

Get Kids Going! Ambassador Shelly Woods fulfilled her amazing challenge of completing three marathons in three weeks. She came 5th in her third marathon – the Boston Marathon with a time of 1hour, 54mins, 33secs

Her time of 1 hour 42 mins 36 sec in Berlin was her fastest marathon time in 10 years. In the London Marathon she came sixth with a time of 1 hour, 50 mins 11 secs. We have been supporters of Shelly since she was a young girl, so it’s great to see these performances from her as an adult and young mum.

Shelly also won The Great North Run in September and was interviewed about her achievement on the BBC.

After winning the Great North Run, Shelly said “It’s been tough training during the pandemic but I kind of had the mindset of ‘keep going’, as eventually there will be some races at the end of it. I tried to target Tokyo but didn’t actually get there. So it’s nice to be able to now race and put all that training into something”.

Olivia said “Well done to everyone today. I am forever grateful to have the support of Get Kids Going! on the journey to the top.”

She is pictured beaming above after the Boston marathon and said “3 marathons in 3 weeks done 💪🏻 from Berlin to London to Boston”.

Shelly’s performance at the Boston Marathon is a brilliant comeback as she took three years out of competitive racing to raise her son.

After the London Marathon she said “So cool to be back on the streets of London and proud to have finished in 6th place.”

Shelly’s next challenge is the New York Marathon on November 7th and she said. “At least I have a couple of weeks in between to get ready for this next one.”

We look forward to seeing Shelly in more events in the coming season and wish her best of luck for the future.
