Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Team receive silver medal in European Championships

The Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Team won the Silver at the European Championships on 26th February 2022.  We were there to watch the games in Paris. Sadly, the team lost by 1 point against France but they played fantastically well and worked hard to pull it back from a 5 point lead to only 1 point lead before the final whistle.

Hosted at the Halle Carpentier arena, the eight highest-ranked teams in Europe competed over five days, 22 to 26 February 2022. Representing Great Britain were nine of the gold-medal-winning Tokyo 2020 squad, joined by three debutants: Faye West, Kieran Flynn, and Daniel Kellett.

The Great British team won all their games in Pool B – against Germany, Poland and Netherlands.

They were drawn against Denmark in the semi-final which they won on Friday.

This draw meant they met France in the Final on Saturday night at 6pm.

Get Kids Going! are very proud long term supporters of the GB wheelchair rugby team and the last two years have been particularly hard for all athletes, so your fundraising really means so much.

Their next matches will be the Canada Cup in July when the team will be travelling to Vancouver to play in the comps against Canada, USA, Australia and Japan.  This is a big competition on the world stage.

We are so proud of the team and were delighted with the silver medal. We wish them the best of luck with the Canada Cup in July and hope they bring home some more medals.
