Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Team win their first three games in Paris Paralympics

The Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) team got off to a flying start with their first games in the Paris Paralympics. GB beat Australia in their opening match in an amazing team effort. Paralympics GB Wheelchair Rugby team are in Paris taking part in the Paralympics Games. The Wheelchair Rugby Games started on the 29th August and run until the 2nd September 2024.

They also won their second game against Denmark 55 – 53 on 30th August. The game was a very close affair, however, GB managed to take the lead in the final quarter and hold on for the win.

With a nail-biting game against France on 31st August, GB beat France by just one point. The team have now topped their group, and go into the semi final play offs.

Our Chief Executive Jane Emmerson and Get Kids Going!’s Shirley were in Paris to see Paralympics GB Wheelchair Rugby team make their victory on the 31st August in the Paralympics Games.

The Wheelchair Rugby Games started on the 29th August and run until the 2nd September 2024. Originally known as ‘murderball’, the sport is played with a round ball, making it one of the most entertaining sports of any Games.

Elsewhere our President Seven-time Paralympian David Weir won the second heat of the men’s T54 5,000m, featuring many of the world’s best wheelchair racers.

David only needed to finish in the top five to get through to the next round, but he held off Saichon Konjen from Thailand by 0.004

All of the wheelchair rugby games can be watched live on Channel 4 or catch up on YouTube Channel and you can also see daily updates on their website gbwr.org.uk . The team are next playing USA on 1st September 2024 at 18.30. If GBWR win tonight they will go into the finals.
